Star Power & My Kirkus Review

Fair warning—this is a brag post. But how often does something happen that is genuinely brag-worthy? It’s like Halley’s-Comet-rare in my adult experience—so I must make a big deal because it is a big deal. One Thing Better received a glowing Kirkus Review and… (drumroll please) … a coveted Kirkus star.

So, why is this a big deal? A Kirkus review is the industry standard for books—it’s the top tier of book critics. You’ve probably seen snippets of reviews on book covers and in ads. A positive review is a win. A Kirkus Star is a walk-off grand slam. It’s awarded to around 10% of books for “exceptional merit.” This distinction puts One Thing Better alongside traditionally published books from authors like Colleen Hoover, Emily Henry, and Christina Lauren—I’ve joined their Kirkus star family!

The reviewer said One Thing Better is “A complex and hugely satisfying contemporary romance between genuine, flawed people.”

Also, “Readers accustomed—maybe too accustomed—to the typical meet-cute, witty-banter, early-to-bed, early-to-wed template of many contemporary romances will find the emotionally complicated situation the author creates in these pages immensely refreshing; these are two far from perfect, believable characters slowly chipping away at the barriers they’ve erected against the happiness they want. When Lena observes that “falling in love is all about the little things,” this narrative will make readers believe it.”

Time is running out to lock in your prelaunch eBook price of only $.99! This insanely low price will expire on October 24th.

Thanks for indulging my brag post! It’ll be back to normal next week… or maybe not.

Happy Weekend!
